Remote
Generator Control and Monitoring:
This
OEM design is a device to monitor remotely situated
backup generators (before this device was available
an engineer would have to visit hundreds of sites every
month to check on the generators condition).
The
device comprises a FMT-100D without it’s case or terminals
which was supplied to the customer who fitted it into
a special ‘mother board’ of their own design.
This
design also consisted of a specially written piece of
OEM software which displayed the generator being remotely
monitored as a mimic panel.
The
FMT-100D was connected via the mother board to a modem
which enabled it to be communicated with over the public
telephone network, hence allowing very remote monitoring.
Special
Features:
- Modem
interface
- Standard
FMT-100D used (without casing and terminals)
- Special
OEM software written - displaying the generator
being monitored as a mimic panel

Irrigation
control system for large manufacturer:
This
design consists of a FMT-100 processor board mounted
in a I/O board specially designed by Colter.
The
unit controlls an irrigation system in the Middle East
- because of this geographical location the design had
to cope with extremes of temperature (up to 70 degrees
C).
The
unit controlles and monitored the irrigation sprinklers.
Data for the weeks irrigation was downloaded to the
unit once a week and the unit used it’s real time clock
to 'know' when to perform irrigation.
Special
Features:
-
Wide operating temperature (-5 deg C to +70
deg C)
- Fully
isolated I/O
- On-board
power supply for external devices
- Utilises
standard FMT-100 micro processor board

Press
batch counter / control:
This
OEM design used by a large international car manufacturer
is a controller which operates a press and also displays
the current batch number.
The
design utilised a FMT-100 CPU board mounted in a special
I/O board designed by Colter. The board controls the
press and also displays the batch number using a large
seven segment LED display. The board was mounted inside
a small enclosure with the display visible
Special
Features:
- Large
character display
- Standard
FMT-100 microprocessor board
- Special
display / I/O board.

Control
board for Industrial steam / vacuum cleaning machine:
This
OEM design was for a control board for use inside a
industrial steam cleaning / vacuum cleaner.
The
board utilised a Microchip PIC microcontroller and controlled:
boiler temperature, water level, vacuum on/off, steam
on/off, chemical cleaner on/off.
The
PIC was also utilised to monitor various parts of the
machine alarm conditons for example: over temperature,
low water level etc. If an alarm condition occured a
bleeper was sounded and the event logged in the microcontroller's
non-volatile flash memory.
Status
and alarm conditions could be viewed / acknowledged
via the LCD display and keypad (this was fitted to the
front of the machine).
Operating
parameters were also adjustable and were held in non-volatile
memory.
Special
Features:
|
- PIC
microcontroller based
- Data
/ Alarm Event logging
- LCD
display
- Keypad
- Low
cost solution

Electronic
Humane Mouse Trap Board:
This
OEM design was for small control board for use inside
an electronic mouse trap.
The board utilised a Microchip PIC microcontroller and
monitored a pressure pad within the trap, when a mouse
walked over this pad then the trap could be set off.
The
PIC was utilised to monitor the trap, the battery voltage.
An
LED which was controlled by the PIC gave indication
of low battery, whether the trap had been set-off and
of normal operation.
The
cost of this board was critical, and it was designed
in such a way as to be very cost effective.
Special
Features:
- Low-cost
- PIC
microcontroller based
- Economical
use of components

Electronic
Control Board used in a Home Flood Prevention Product:
This
OEM design was for small control board for use inside
an electronic home flood prevention product.
The board utilised a Microchip PIC microcontroller and
monitored a flow sensor fixed in line with the main
water inlet inside of the house just after the stopcock,
it also monitored temperature.
Several
LEDs on the board give status indication. If the water
flow rate was suddenly extremly high (indicating a burst
pipe) then the PIC would shut a solenoid valve in the
water supply to the house, this could be overridden
(for example if using a hose pipe).
If
the water flow rate remained steady at a normal volume
for a long period of time (thus indicating that a tap
had been left turned on) then the PIC would close the
solenoid valve and cut off the water supply.
If
the ambient temperature dropped close to freezing point
then the supply would be cut off by the PIC operating
the solenoid valve - therfore avoiding a burst pipe.
The
PCB was designed to fit inside a plastic moulding which
was fitted around the solenoid valve and flow sensor.
Special
Features:
|
- Low-cost
- PIC
microcontroller based
- Small
physical size
- Extensive
use of surface mount componets to achieve small size
